A collection is a group of books released together under one smart contract — a single title in many numbered copies, a magazine's run of issues, or a set of classics brought out as a series.
The collection is what determines the things that matter to you as a buyer: how many copies exist, what the author's royalty is, and whether the contract can ever mint more. Those are fixed when the collection is deployed and are readable on-chain by anyone. Nobody can quietly print more copies of a sold-out book.
