Story Commentary is intended to let readers leave notes on a book — margin annotations, a reaction to a passage, a question for the author — attached to the place in the text they refer to, rather than dumped in a review box at the bottom.
Two things make it worth building on a platform like this one:
- The author can answer. A note on a specific paragraph is a conversation with the person who wrote it, in the place it makes sense.
- The commentary is durable. Attached to the book rather than to a social platform that may not exist in five years, and it travels with the book when it changes hands.
Nothing is built yet. There is no commentary feature in the reader today.
What you can do today
The reader supports highlighting and text-to-speech, and the AI Reading Assistant will answer questions about the passage you are on. Reader-to-reader and reader-to-author discussion is what is missing.
It will be announced on What's New when it opens.
